How To Protect Your Home From Bed Bugs

by Maria Hernandez

Bed bugs in houses are a large issue for the inhabitants. These tiny nasty creatures feed on the blood from warm blooded animals and if they can\'t find a human victim they could go for a cat or dog as well. To deal with this problem, one must go for professional pest control procedures.

Travellers are usually accountable for transmission of bed bugs, and once these bugs adapt to new surroundings, they reproduce very fast. They infest beds, furniture, carpets and all such items where they can find holes and cracks.

During daytime, bed bugs hide in dark, protected areas. They choose fabric, wood, and paper surfaces. They normally rest near the host. They can also be found in tuffs, creases, and folds of mattresses.

An overwhelming majority of people harbour the wrong idea that bed bugs like places that are unhygienic. Since these pests feed on blood and not trash, hygiene doesn\'t help in getting rid of them. Nevertheless, keeping the surroundings sanitized and dirt free can assist in easy spotting of these pests.

That bed bugs are too tiny to be visible without any magnifying device is another misconception. Actually these creatures are very much visible without any help but it is hard to locate them because their flat bodies enable them to slide into tiny crevices and layers of cloth without any difficulty.

They will usually bite once a week or so, and they can really survive for a long time without eating - commonly six months, but sometimes over a year.

Bed bugs in homes are best taken care of by experienced pest controllers, so it is prudent to engage the services of such experts. However, there are some home remedies also to control their menace such as sanitizing bed sheets, carpets and other cloths in warm water and then exposing them to the sun. Crevices in the walls must also be shut, and furniture having lots of holes and other potential breeding grounds for bed bugs must preferably be done away with.
